There will be tons of "cosmetically challenged" radishes headed to market this weekend, so stock up! My favorite way to use up a lot of radishes is to make refrigerator pickles-- what's yours?

This might be peak week for cucumbers for us- almo This might be peak week for cucumbers for us- almost 200 pounds today alone! Since cucumbers grow so fast, we harvest every other day, so we'll be getting even more on our Wednesday and Friday harvests this week.

This year we're growing self pollinating cucumbers in a greenhouse that's been screened off to keep all the pesky cucumbers beetles away. It's our first time trying screens and it's paid off- not a pest in sight and the plants have never looked so healthy.

Our blackberry canes were hard hit by the deep fre Our blackberry canes were hard hit by the deep freeze last winter, leading to a pretty poor crop this summer- most of the berries are being made into jam. But every so often while harvesting I find a huge, perfect berry that I just can't resist eating 😎

Ahhhhh, organic farming. These are army worms. I Ahhhhh, organic farming.

These are army worms. I especially dislike these little buggers because unlike hornworms, they rarely mess around with leaves- they go straight for the fruit. Sometimes I pick them off to feed to my chickens, who LOVE them. But if there's a big infestation, we spray the plants with Bt, an organic pesticide. Bt, short for bacillus thurengiensis, is a naturally occuring bacteria that only targets the digestic system of caterpillars- it is non toxic to humans, beneficial insects such as bees and ladybugs, or other animals. That usually takes care of the worms for a few weeks, until a new round of caterpillars comes along. In the meantime, we will harvest these first cherry tomatoes to bring to the Overland Park Farmers Market this weekend!
